Politics of Bharat Ratna
That the Padma awards are less for recognition of distinction and more for doling out patronage or reward by the government of the day has ceased to be a contestable point long ago. On a different scale, however, the award of Bharat Ratna is increasingly used not for patronage, but to make political statements. It is done to claim ownership of political legacies, to co-opt regional identities, to appease sectional interests, and to exhibit loyalties. One need not go into the merit of any of the awardees. But answers to questions like when was the last time someone deserving was awarded, and by whom, or who was denied and for how long, can be found if they are seen in the light of the extant political compulsions and ideological battles.

Demerger Trick: A Velvet Glove to Cover an Iron Fist
Clever communicators use mitigating words to try and lend a velvet glove to their iron fist. ‘Increase in interest rates’ is painful to hear. Therefore, ‘upward revision’ is invented. ‘Surgery’ is intimidating. Sugarcoat it by saying ‘procudure’ and it sounds less threatening. The invention of the term ‘demerger’ by the Telangana separatists belongs to the same genre. Instead of saying division of Andhra Pradesh, they are making efforts to give currency to ‘demerger’ of Andhra Pradesh.

Damn Zakaria by all means, But…
Fareed Zakaria is found plagiarizing from Jill Lepore’s article in the New Yorker. He has apologized unconditionally for having let a passage from her writing slip into his piece for the Time Magazine and also into the recycled CNN blog post.

T Argument: Relay Run of the Lame
Traffic on my social networking sites has seen a tremendous surge these days. But alas, a very unhealthy one. Whatever is my post, people eventually end up venting their spleen against on my stand on the T agitation. I don’t mind a strong dose of criticism on my position. But instead of engaging in a debate or criticism, my facebook ‘friends’ turn aggressive, and abusive. Even the presumably educated ‘netizens’ too resort to filthy language and verbal intimidation. I was amazed at the choice of words by someone who claimed to be a doctor.

Response to ‘T’ Discussion in Karmayog – IV
Sri Subhash C. Reddy, Ph.D’s response to my reply to Sri Subba Rao gari request might mislead the readers. This is especially with regard to the views and writings of Sri Ravi Narayana Reddy. Sri Subhash C. Reddy, Ph.D said that Sri Ravi Narayana Reddy couldn’t have said “Veera Telangana Naadi – Veru Telangana Kaadu”. Sri Subhash C. Reddy, Ph.D, also said in his response to my post that Sri Ravi Narayana Reddy inflicted crushing defeat on Telugu language fanaticism.
